Colombian Black Clay Double Dish

This beautiful and functional pottery is handcrafted of black micaceous clay using centuries-old techniques. It is made in Columbia, along the Magdalena River, which archaeological investigations have shown to be the first place pottery was produced in the Americas.

Artisans begin by shaping the clay into pots, then coat them with fine red clay and polish them with river rocks. After firing, the red-hot pieces are smothered with rice husks to create a distinctive finish.

This method produces uniquely beautiful pottery with a lush black color and rich sheen. These pots have the charm and rustic characteristics of other handcrafted items; however, their simple form and luminous color also make them perfectly at home with today’s modern décor. These pots are safe for use in the oven, in the microwave, or on the stovetop, and enhance the presentation of all your dishes.

This pottery makes a beautiful, unique, and functional gift for the cook or hostess in your life.
